4 Visiting Researcher Bursaries,Aspect-Oriented Software Development (AOSD-Europe)
To mark the fourth anniversary of its launch, AOSD-Europe, the European Network of Excellence on Aspect-Oriented Software Development (AOSD), is offering four visiting researcher bursaries aimed at PhD students or early post-docs (within first 2 years of their PhD award date) external to the network.
Deadline: 11 Aug 2008
Bursary value: € 2000 eachVisit duration: 1 month (15 September – 15 October 2008)
Each bursary is to the value of €2000 in order to cover travel and subsistence expenses (the bursary can complement an existing grant that the applicant may have). The bursaries are for researchers who are *not* currently employed or pursuing studies at one of the AOSD-Europe partner sites. Each bursary will provide the successful candidate an opportunity to be based in one of the four geographically distributed research labs of the network for a duration of 1 month. These labs are as follows:
Analysis and Design Lab
Languages Lab
Formal Methods
Applications Lab
AOSD-Europe is an academia-industry collaboration funded by the EC FP6 Programme aimed at addressing research challenges in AOSD on a large-scale: from requirements analysis and design through to implementation and validation. Research in the project is organised into four geographically distributed research labs. The Analysis and Design lab addresses research issues relating to aspect-oriented requirements engineering and architecture/design modelling. Work in the Languages lab focuses on novel aspect language features and implementation technologies. The Formal Methods lab is concerned with verification and validation challenges for AOSD techniques. The Applications lab is a medium for experimentally and empirically validating the research results in large-scale applications and middleware.
Each successful candidate will be expected to work closely with the body of researchers involved in one of the four labs. The candidate will be based at one or two locations (depending on the focus of the work) during his/her visit and will have an opportunity to work with leading researchers in AOSD. S/he will also be able to work with state-of-the-art AOSD tools offered by the AOSD-Europe Atelier: a software workbench for AOSD.
There are four bursaries available, one for each lab. However, excellence will be the sole criteria for award of the bursaries. We also encourage applications which cross lab boundaries. Two bursaries are specifically aimed at spending all or part of the period at Lancaster University, UK, the project coordinator, and hence will provide holders an opportunity to gain a global view of the network’s activities.
Prospective candidates should submit the following documentation by 16:00 GMT on 11 August to Diane Brackley d.brackley@comp.lancs.ac.uk
A cover letter highlighting why the bursary would be beneficial to the applicant at this stage in his/her career and the relationship of the proposed research with the applicant’s current research. The letter should also indicate which particular lab the applicant would like to be placed in (or if the research is considered to be of a cross-lab nature);
Curriculum Vitae including a list of relevant publications;
A proposal (1 side of A4) providing a problem statement and the potential research that will be pursued during the course of the visit;
A letter of recommendation from the applicant’s PhD supervisor.
Prospective candidates are welcome to discuss their interests informally beforehand with the project coordinator, Prof. Awais Rashid (awais@comp.lancs.ac.uk)
