Leading Scientist Positions, Postdoctorate Positions, PhD Scholarships, GSI Darmstadt / The ExtreMe Matter Institute EMMI, Germany
The ExtreMe Matter Institute (EMMI), a new research structure, is currently being set-up at GSI in the framework of the recently started international Helmholtz Alliance "Cosmic Matter in the Laboratory". To lead the EMMI research activities in both, theoretical and experimental physics, a total of 14 assistant/full professorships and 4 EMMI-fellowships, will be available. Also available immediately are EMMI scholarships for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers in the four EMMI areas in both theoretical and experimental physics.
Deadline: 25 Aug 2008
EMMI embraces 13 internationally renowned academic partners and will constitute a research infrastructure for forefront interdisciplinary theoretical and experimental research on matter under extreme conditions, ranging from quark-gluon matter in the early universe, plasma physics, neutron matter, atomic physics and strong electromagnetic fields to ultra-cold quantum gases. For a detailed description of the EMMI research program see http://www.gsi.de/forschung/helmholtz-alliance/
To lead the EMMI research activities in both, theoretical and experimental physics, a total of 14 assistant/full professorships (W2/W3 BBesG), both tenure and tenure track, and four EMMI-fellowships, will be available. These positions will be filled with outstanding experimental and theoretical scientists with research focus in quark-gluon plasma physics, atomic physics, neutron matter, and plasma physics. Further information on these positions can be found at the EMMI website above.
The Professor (m/f) positions are offered jointly by EMMI`s academic partner institutions.
Specifically, EMMI is looking for four scientists (m/f) to lead the four EMMI expert groups as EMMI Fellows (EG 14 TVöD). The successful candidates will have a doctoral degree in a relevant area of experimental physics and at least three years of postdoctoral experience. The duration of the position is initially for 4 years. Upon review after 3 years within the framework of the GSI tenure track program the successful candidates may be taken over into a permanent staff position.
Also available immediately are EMMI scholarships for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers in the four EMMI areas in both theoretical and experimental physics.
Applications for Professorships, EMMI-Fellow Positions and EMMI-Scholarships should be sent to:
The Director ExtreMe Matter Institute EMMI Prof. Dr. Peter Braun-Munzinger c/o GSI mbH Planckstrasse 1 64291 Darmstadt Germany
and should include a CV, list of publications, a brief research statement, and two references.
The application deadline for the EMMI fellow positions is August 25, 2008. Applications for all postdoc and PhD positions are welcome anytime.
